Is it possible to treat addiction in an outpatient setting?

I have a lot of experience working with chemical and process addictions. We’re not taking the “abstinence first, trauma healing later” approach. When we find and treat the early wounds that you’re self-medicating for, the need to numb/disappear/seek relief will abate, making it easier to make choices from a place of self-care and self-love. Addictive behaviors could be alcohol, substances, food, work, sex, or spending money.

What is codependency?

The primary addiction that I work with in my practice is the addiction to control. We all crave it, and we all think this world would go so much better if we were in charge, and if people did what we said. But we don’t like it when people control us…. Treating codependency and releasing the need for control requires massive amounts of self-compassion, and that’s the place to start for codependency, people pleasing, over-functioning, and burnout. This shows up the most in relationships with partners, children and adult family members, or at work.

What does dissociation even mean?

Do the people that love you tell you that you’re hard to read or that you’re disconnected from your emotions? Are you always trying to explain yourself, but you can’t connect with others? Does your body shut you down when you try to figure out how you’re feeling or articulate that to other people? Have people that care about you told you that you said one thing when you clearly meant another? These may all be symptoms of sub-clinical trauma splitting, emotional suppression, intellectualization, AKA dissociation. This is my specialty.

Can I heal ancestral trauma even if I didn’t live through it?

Are you aware that the patterns that you’re living out in your lifetime don’t really belong to you? Which ones are cultural practices, and which ones are born of survival and trauma? When we’re feeling the effects of the past in our nervous systems, we need to heal what’s in the past…….in our nervous systems today. I am specially trained in a treatment modality that helps to treat the effects of the past in your body and your life.

What does self-esteem and self-compassion have to do with trauma treatment?

It’s not too trite to say that we can’t shame ourselves into change, we have to love ourselves into evolution. How does the self-talk of the “future you” sound? The one who is living your dreams? It’s time to start talking to yourself like that now…….. If only your inner critic didn’t get in the way! Compassion-focused somatic treatment allows us to communicate directly with that “inner critic,” who is truly only trying to help(!), and allows you to create a new connection to self-acceptance, awareness, and compassion.

Are you constantly in “fight or flight” mode?

When you’re chronically on high alert, then your body is constantly pumping you full of threat chemicals, and prolonged exposure to these chemicals is toxic to the body. Advanced Integrative Therapy is a profound tool for releasing the somatized ‘toxic stress’ in the body. Research shows that toxic stress and adverse childhood experiences lead to increased risk for chronic health conditions in adulthood. Do you have a mysterious illness that doctors seem baffled by? AIT could help you get to the roots of what needs to be healed in you so that your body can return to optimal functioning and your body can effectively work to heal itself.
